Truman

The next morning, I woke up remarkably refreshed, given the conditions I’d been sleeping in. Talking it out with Dylan had me feeling even firmer in my decision to have my place in the flight stripped from me. It wasn’t like I ever wanted it in the first place, but part of me was always glad I had it. It gave me a feeling of worth, which was ridiculous in hindsight. My worth came from who I was and not my proximity to power. But also, knowing that I was a quasi buffer for my brother… that meant something to me.

And really, he didn’t need a buffer. My brother was capable, and while the elders and some of the pack were a pain in his ass, he was a strong Alpha and did right by the flight. On that, everyone agreed.

“We need to get out of bed, don’t we?” my mate said, his fingertips running down my arm.

“Yes.” I rolled so that I was facing him. “But maybe we can come back to bed later?” I gave him a peck and got out. “I sort of want to get this out of the way.”

“I know.” He pushed himself to sit. “And I understand why. I wish it didn’t come down to you giving things up, though.”

“Oh, silly alpha, I’m not, though. Don’t you see? I’m gaining far more than I’m letting go.” I paused. “Our children will never have to deal with all the political bullshit of the flight. You won’t have to deal with it either.”

“I notice how you didn’t mention yourself in that little speech.” He would notice too.

“That’s because I will still have to deal with it, but in a different way. Drake is and will always be my brother, and he’s the Alpha. He will need someone to talk to, and until he finds a mate, that will be me.” I yawned. “I’m glad it’s me.”

“He is too.” My mate climbed out of bed, standing there in complete nakedness.

I didn’t think the day would come when his body didn’t threaten to steal my breath away. He was stunningly gorgeous, all muscles and yum. And one day he would wear my mark, making him even more sexy. I was a lucky, lucky omega.

“How late are we running?” Dylan asked.

“We have time. Why?”

“I didn’t know if you needed help in the shower.” He winked, and my cock hardened even more than it already was.

“Oh, we are running pretty late now that I think about it. You better come in with me and help me get clean.”

And he did, after he first got me a little dirtier. We’d have stayed under the hot water for a lot longer had there been hot water to luxuriate under. Stupid medium-sized hot water tank.
